Back in the DPRK!

April Tours Confirmed

Hello we hope that this email finds you well!

As you may already know, Rason – located in the remote northeastern corner of the DPRK – has recently opened its doors to non-Russian tourists. And guess what? KTG Tours was among the first Western travel companies to send travellers there at the end of February after a long 5-year break!

True to our KTG style, we kept our group small. Maybe a bit too small this time though? 😂

Fully aware that booking a trip to the far Northeast of North Korea requires a lot of planning on your side, we decided not to publish any tour dates or receive any reservations until 100% confirmed by our Korean partners that the borders were fully opened to tourists.

First DPRK Tour in 5 Years!

Taking advantage of our expert local knowledge of Yanbian, we took a bit of an unusual route to Rason. Given that the group was so small, the day before the trip we decided to head from Yanji to Hunchun, a melting pot of Chinese, Korean and Russian cultures, and the city closest to the Chinese DPRK border. It also happens to be the place in Yanbian where they have the best, chunkiest and tastiest meat skewers!

After staying a night in Hunchun, our group headed to the Chinese-DPRK border, ready to start a very much anticipated adventure!

Over three unforgettable nights and four action-packed days, we immersed ourselves in the unique charm of Rason.

From seeing what it is like to open a local bank account and exchanging foreign currency into Korean won,

to making traditional Korean rice cakes, visiting a local orphanage, and hiking through stunning landscapes with breathtaking views of the region – this tour had all!

And please don't forget the beer!🍺

nor the deer!

Other highlights included the School Uniform Factory where we could see workers,

the Three Borders Point where we can stand at the crossroads of North Korea, China, and Russia,

meeting and interacting with students in different schools,

going on city walks and hikes with breath-taking views,

and much more!
